Dan's Travels: Chinese Gardens, Singapore (December 2007)
Built in 1975, the Chinese Gardens is an excellent example of blending Chinese architecture into the natural environment. It's 5 minutes walk from the Chinese Gardens MRT Station. Some of the architectural features resemble those at the Summer Palace in Beijing. I spotted a kingfisher waiting patiently for some lunch, The bamboos and reflections on the lake were reminding me the ever present and pervasive Natural Way. The elegant statutes of Confucius and other historical figures helped me reflect on the rich Chinese heritage. It was a quiet reminder of my ancient roots. Back to modern life. But I don't need to leave it behind as I can frame it wherever I go... |
