Dan's Travels: Singapore River (December 2007)

The transformation of the Singapre River is pretty amazing. From Boat Quay to Clark Quay to Robertson Quay, the remodeled historicallandmarks and a host of dining establishments have turned the Singapore River into a renewed lifeline of festivities and tourism. At the mouth of the river is the world's largest observation wheel, the 165 m high Singapore Flyer. Each of its 28 capsules takes in 28 passengers. "28" in Cantonese means "esay to prosper". It's officially opened in 2008. However, we missed the opening. It was no different each time we visited the Singapore River: a pretty clever blend of the new with the old. The old looked new and the new looked like the extension of the "old".

While the Merlion has been relocated, the sense of flow in the River seems to last indefinitely...
