Dan's Travels: Daytona Beach, FL (August 2007)
| The locals called it the “World’s most famous beach”. Daytona Beach has very compacted sand that car races were held on the sand until 1958. This is the only beach that I have driven on the sand, very slow though – less than 10 mph. It is permissible to drive and park on designated areas along the 11-mile stretch. Daytona Beach is about an hour’s drive from our home in Apopka. Carissa and her new husband, Oni, drove down from Collegedale and spent a few days with us. Other than car racing, surfing is pretty popular. Since we did neither, we were content with enjoying some family time on the beach and in the water. |
