Dan's Travels: Jacksonville, FL (August 2007)

Named after Andrew Jackson, the first military governor of the Florida Territory, Jacksonville is the largest city in land area in the contiguous United States. It is the third most populated city on the East Coast, after New York City and Philadelphia.  It was our second visit to Jacksonville. We stayed on the other side of the river this time, and it was more conveniently located near the Jacksonville Landing. We went to the food court at the Landing for a quick lunch. The ominous sky eventually gave way to pretty heavy pouring. I took The Skytrain at the station right behind our hotel to FJJC for my first Florida Distance Learning Consortium meeting. What a ride for only 35 cents! On the way back, I rode the Skytrain across theSt. Johns river and then back to the hotel.
