Dan's Travels: Big Island - "Live" Lava Flow (October 2006)

We knew that there was no chance to see any redglow of the "live" lava flow since there was still plenty of daylight. Nevertheless, we went to the very end where there was no more road - a ranger outpost. There was some breathtaking views along the way. We had to park our vehicle and walked the final mile. Even there we couldn't see much from that vantage point. We hiked further on the lava bed following the "safe" yellow markings. The view was no better. But we were not foolish enough to try what Jason Zimmer (our park ranger) warned about the "crazy people" lava trail. Oh well, maybe someday...
