Dan's Travels: Hanauma Bay, Oahu (October 2006)

Formerly a volcanic crater, the Hanauma Bay was declared a marine life conservation area and underwater park in 1967. Do arrive early in the morning as the park closes when the parking lot is full (if not come later in the afternoon). There is an admission charge per person and a parking fee as well. This is our favorite destination whenever we come to Oahu. The array of colorful marine life is quite dazzling. The beauty is that the fish will swim around us "upclose and personal". We could feed the fish during our first ever visit here years ago. But the park has since discontinued that policy. Amy and I took turn to snorkel and swam with various types of colorful fish. The large blue parrot fish was our favorite. Carina had a good time swimming and splashing in the shallow waters.
